Local Quakers (members of the Society of Friends) are planning to ride from Cumbria to London in July to highlight inequality and put the case for better welfare support for the most vulnerable people in society. They set out on their bicycles from Swarthmoor Hall in the Lyth Valley on 21 July and arrive at the Houses of Parliament in Central London on 3 August. The event is called the Ride 4 Equality & the Common Good.

As part of the evidence they will be presenting to MPs of the damage done by recent benefit reforms, the Friends will be gathering stories on the way – staying at 12 different meeting houses – from people who are struggling.   • Manna history

    Manna House was born in April 2002, initially housed on Kirkland, Kendal, and then moving to the Shakespeare Centre later that year. We moved to larger premises at Castle Lodge on Aynam Road in April 2010. In October 2018, we moved to the Stephenson Centre, off Ann Street, near Kendal station.
