Our good friends at CADAS have been coming up with lots of ways to support the refurbishment work on the Stephenson Centre, Manna House’s new home, where they and other recovery groups will be based from the autumn. One of their supporters has now kindly donated a week in a tipi in the Lake District to raffle. If you fancy a few nights away from it all, or know someone […]
At this week’s ‘Sew What?’ women’s group we started customising lots of lovely items to sell at the Manna House Garden Party on Saturday 14 July. But we need reinforcements! So, if you can hold a needle and sew a badge on a T-towel, please, please come and join us next Monday morning (2 July) at 10.30am for a bit of sociable stitching and a biscuit or two. All hands […]
Nigel – whom we helped out last year – is walking Hadrian’s Wall twice this month. And he’s hoping to raise money for us along the way through his JustGiving page. It’s 168 miles of pretty rugged country from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend and back, and he’s only taking his tent (and his younger brother). Please support him if you can by clicking on his JustGiving page here.
We always enjoy our time with our friends Space2Create, around the corner from Manna House, and our Wednesday Workshop at the end of May was no exception, making these lovely bright ink drawings together. We hope to be able to display just a taste of the artwork we’ve made over the months in their welcoming studio space to brighten up our new building in the autumn. Thank you, Space2Create!
We had another great Skills Café this week, courtesy of Lana and her helpers from Love Arts. We explored the theme of ‘Home’ and designed our own cardboard mini-homes to be included in a Lakes Alive project in Kendal this Summer. More home building next week! Adam our social worker student finished his placement with us this week so Nela made him a special cake, which got the thumbs up […]
On Saturday 2 June, it was announced that Manna House has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. We were among 6 nominees from Cumbria (for the North West region) and 3 of those nominees were successful. Nina Bale (left), Founder and Coordinator of the Friends of Manna House, and Andrea Aldridge (right), our Chief Officer, represented us at a special garden party at Buckingham Palace on 15 May… […]
On Friday we were sweltering in the Manna House kitchen and so we made some banana and peanut butter ice cream which was delicious! Simply whizz up frozen bananas and a pot of smooth peanut butter to make a quick and nutritious treat…yum!
