We had a lovely trip on Monday with ‘Sew What?’, our regular women’s group. Kendal’s Abbot Hall art gallery had invited us to see the Monet painting ‘Haystacks: Snow Effect’ which is on display there for the next two months – for free! As part of an outreach Lakeland Arts project with Shannon, we sewed collages in the gallery inspired by the paintings and became a pop-up piece of inspirational performance art ourselves. Vistors […]
It’s only 3 weeks until Saturday 24 February, when the Friends of Manna House (FOMS) hold their annual Big Swim at Kendal Leisure Centre, so now’s the time to choose your challenge and collect your sponsorship form. This year FOMS are hoping to raise over £4000 towards the cost of making sure that our new building on Ann Street is fully soundproofed so that clients can discuss their circumstances confidentiality with our advisers and […]
Over Christmas ladies’ fashion and beauty salon Maya Maya, in Wainwright’s Yard, ran a wrapping service with a difference – for donations to Manna House. Our Benefits Officer, Angela (right), went to pick up the proceeds yesterday and it’s been such a success that they’ve kindly offered to gift wrap for us all year round. Thank you, Maya Maya!

Everyone shared their knowledge, skills and taste and the final product went down very well with all the guests, too. Some even tried Chai tea for the first time, too. Looking forward to more affordable, healthy takes on favourite takeaways…
This week our Sew What? craft group enjoyed jazzing up a few plain knitted hats with some gorgeous crafty flowers – knitted, felt and crocheted – and don’t they just look amazing?! Perfect for adding a bit of colour to a grey January day.
A belated thanks to the super kitchen volunteers (just some of whom – Anna, Hazel, Glynis – made it into this picture with Clare) who helped to make our meal on the 22 December such a success. We served a full Christmas dinner to at least 66 clients and most came back for seconds, followed by Sylvie’s splendid home-made birthday cake as well as mountains of mince pies.
Happy New Year to all our friends and supporters. Castle Lodge is open today and we’re back up to full speed after the Christmas break now and looking forward to seeing our clients, volunteers and supporters again soon. We had a fabulous Festive Friday on the day we closed – with about 80 people taking part at some point during the day. Clare cooked up a storm as usual and […]
