Manna House

"Manna House works for the benefit of the public in South Lakeland, providing advice, advocacy and a drop-in support centre for those who are homeless, vulnerably housed, lonely or needing help."

We are only able to provide the services we offer because of our team of enthusiastic volunteers.

Last year Manna House was able to provide 3000 Drop-In meals and 286 hours of housing and benefits advice to residents of South Lakeland – including the 55 who were homeless. We could not do what we do without the 4000+ hours our wonderful volunteers deliver on average each year.

Our team of volunteers does need reinforcement as people move on, or as we need to enlarge the pool of skills we can call upon.

Volunteers help us in a range of tasks such as

  • Administration
  • Property maintenance
  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Fund Raising activities
  • Teaching life skills (budgeting, hygiene, housekeeping etc.)
  • Helping clients with computing (I.T.) skills
  • Literacy and numeracy coaching
  • General Support – assisting staff and clients

If you would like to explore the possibility of volunteering at Manna House or need further information please contact us on or call 01539 725534. In the meantime, here is a volunteer application form; 2014 Vol Application form.

  • Manna history

Manna House began in 2003 at The Shakespeare Centre in Kendal. Due to an increased demand for our services, we moved to larger premises here at Castle Lodge in April 2011.
