Our Ethos

Manna House is Christian in its foundation and inspiration but it is completely non-sectarian in action with members of all faiths and none and working with all faiths and none. Without ‘preaching’ or ‘tracts’ its ethos is to put into practice the simple gospel message ‘love your neighbour as yourself’. Therefore

  • Manna House is a welcoming community
  • Manna House builds supportive relationships
  • Manna House is a place of acceptance and opportunity
  • Manna House facilitates learning by doing.

All staff and volunteers work in a compassionate, holistic and boundaried way.

  • Manna history

Manna House was born in April 2002, initially housed on Kirkland, Kendal, and then moving to the Shakespeare Centre later that year. We moved to larger premises at Castle Lodge on Aynam Road in April 2010. In October 2018, we moved to the Stephenson Centre, off Ann Street, near Kendal station.
