When Susie Bagot of Levens Hall, a long-time supporter of Manna House, suggested we might try for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, it just sounded too good to be true. But with the support of our talented volunteer Clare Coxon, we went ahead and applied for the honour. The award is equivalent to an MBE and is the highest award that can be made to a voluntary group. Thank you so much to the Unitarian Chapel and friends who hosted a concert in aid of Manna House at the end of September. An amazing variety of performers entertained our audience with top-quality music and the Manna House kitchen volunteers prepared delicious cakes which everyone enjoyed in the interval. Thank you to everyone involved!

Speaker Peter Holme from Kendal Oral History Group came to Manna House on Monday 1 October and gave us a fascinating talk on the Old Yards of Kendal. Lots of our folk came along – including a few new faces – and enjoyed a bowl of soup and a hunk of bread before a lively meeting – and so we’re going to be planning some more speaker meetings for the […]

We had a fantastic morning last week making on-trend non-alcoholic Mocktails. Raspberry and mint fizz was our favourite. This week we’ll be having fun transforming wonky vegetables and fruit into edible sculptures! Many thanks too, to our lovely Trina for giving our dining chairs a facelift ready for the new building.

It’s been another cracking September at Manna House. Among the highlights were… the deluxe fish pie Chef Carl made with us the first week of September and the cod that Mike Myers caught for another lovely pie at the end of the month our cardboard dream homes, designed with Lana from Love Arts over the summer, on show at the Town Hall during Lakes Alive our Up!-inspired float sparkling and […]

Please have a look and see whether you can help. Donations can be left at Manna House any time between 9 and 4 on any weekday, or […]

As you might guess, at Manna House we’re often needing to move clients quickly into a new home, clients without any transport or money to pay a removal firm. We usually put an appeal out to lovely supporters like you and someone kindly steps in but it’s always a bit nerve-wracking! So we’re planning to set up a New Home team that could be ready, on standby almost, at a […]

With the move to the new building on the horizon, we’re taking a fresh look at how we look after our clients at our Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday drop-ins and we need a few more hands on deck to make sure that everyone gets the support they need. Could you be one of our drop-in/reception volunteers? It just requires a commitment to a few slots on the rota, a month […]

We had a brilliant beach clean day at Arnside on Wednesday, despite the dreary weather, with the Morecambe Bay Partnership. 30kg of rubbish were collected in a couple of hours! Thanks to Nela for the wonderful sandwiches and birthday cake for Chris’ big birthday. As usual when we take Manna House on tour, we were fabulous ambassadors for our organisation and we were thanked by all the dog walkers of Arnside!

We have just had a wonderful summer visit to Growing Well, our favourite farm, and spent the morning touring the poly tunnels sampling the tomatoes and green beans and splitting the shallots so they could dry out and be packed. We all enjoyed a healthy picnic lunch in the yurt and can’t wait to go again! A couple of our guys signed up to become volunteers at Growing Well, too, […]
