We’re beginning to get really excited about this year’s Christmas Auction at St George’s Church on Thursday 6 December. There’s a real buzz around celebrating the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and moving to our new home. Thank you to our hugely supportive local businesses who are donating all sorts of generous prizes. If you’d like to help us collect those prizes or set up on the day – or […]

The sixth Kendal Winter Shelter begins on Monday 19 November at the Salvation Army. It will rotate around six Kendal church venues until Friday 10 March, offering welcome, warmth, good food and real friendship to those who need it. About 100 volunteers will take part in running the Shelter this year and many others will cook, bake and donate supplies and supermarket vouchers to help the Shelter function. Everyone is […]
Thank you so much to speaker, Karen Lloyd, and her hosts, St Thomas’ Church, Kendal, who raised £155 for this year’s Winter Shelter on Friday night. Karen gave a fascinating talk, entitled ‘The Nature of Abundance’ sharing good news stories about the environment from her nature travels, in Spain, Greece, Hungary, Transylvania and Romania. The funds raised will go to provide food for guests at the Winter Shelter, which runs […]
The good news is that we did indeed move to The Stephenson Centre last Wednesday – thanks to the Herculean efforts of Steeles Removals and our builders. And it is going to be amazing. Thanks to the Trustees and other volunteers who turned up to help on the day too. For the first couple of days we didn’t have a phone line but we do have one now (Saturday 20 […]

Just wanted to record a public THANK YOU to the amazing group of Winter Shelter volunteers who turned out in THAT WEATHER this Saturday morning to help move all the bedding and other crucial equipment from Castle Lodge to its new home at the Stephenson Centre. We haven’t finished counting yet but we have about 25 camp beds, 8 inflatable beds, 20 inflatable sleeping mats, about 50 pillows, pillow cases […]

But with the support of our talented volunteer Clare Coxon, we went ahead and applied for the honour. The award is equivalent to an MBE and is the highest award that can be made to a voluntary group. The […]
Thank you so much to the Unitarian Chapel and friends who hosted a concert in aid of Manna House at the end of September. An amazing variety of performers entertained our audience with top-quality music and the Manna House kitchen volunteers prepared delicious cakes which everyone enjoyed in the interval. Thank you to everyone involved!
Speaker Peter Holme from Kendal Oral History Group came to Manna House on Monday 1 October and gave us a fascinating talk on the Old Yards of Kendal. Lots of our folk came along – including a few new faces – and enjoyed a bowl of soup and a hunk of bread before a lively meeting – and so we’re going to be planning some more speaker meetings for the […]
