"Manna House works for the benefit of the public in South Lakeland, providing advice, advocacy and a drop-in support centre for those who are homeless, vulnerably housed, lonely or needing help."

The Friends of Manna House annual Big Swim on Saturday 24 February was once again another wonderful fundraising event. Staff, volunteers, clients, Friends of Manna House, funders and other supporters all joined in. There was an amazing atmosphere of love, determination, and friendship in the pool. This week’s was French-themed: a skills café making our own Monet mural, followed by some delicious French food and a visit to Abbot Hall to see Monet’s Haystacks: Snow Effect for ourselves. Spring seems to have sprung at last and we had a very happy Monday morning this week sewing at the Sew What? group. We are making a patchwork wall hanging for the new building to help with the sound proofing — funky and functional! See you next Monday for another great start to the week.

Thank you to our lovely friend Enid for running an adorable Skills Café this week making cards. Spending time together with people who care about each other (and chocolate and strawberries!) was the best Valentine’s Day possible. Love to all! Next week we will be making a collaborative Monet-inspired mural with Shannon, then taking it to Abbott Hall to see the real one! All welcome.

This week at the Skills Café Nela, our Head Chef, inspired us all with some delicious ‘Nela bites’. We learned to make feta and roast pepper tart,  sweetcorn fritters , veggie chilli and fruit kebabs. We had a very tasty morning of pizza and pasta at Skills Café this week making bread buns, dough and scone-based pizzas that were healthy and cost a fraction of the price of a takeaway. Also bellissima pasta with a tomato and lentil sauce and a tuna, sardine and anchovy medley… More healthy recipes next Wednesday when Nela will be teaching us ways to make delicious healthy ‘bites’ for lifelong health and wellbeing.
